Areas of Practice

Listening first. Advising with purpose.

Fluent in Slovak, Czech, and English, and shaped by life on three continents, Michal brings a calm, measured perspective to his work and a genuine interest in the people behind each file.

Michal’s practice focuses primarily on corporate and commercial law, advising business owners at key stages of growth, transition, and succession, including Canada–U.S. cross‑border matters. Drawing on his international background, he supports businesses navigating complex legal and regulatory landscapes. He also assists individuals and families with estate planning matters, including wills and powers of attorney, bringing the same clarity and care to long‑term planning.

At the centre of his practice is a belief that strong legal advice begins with careful listening. Michal approaches corporate matters with the understanding that clients know their businesses best and that effective counsel is built through collaboration rather than assumption. In estate planning matters, that same mindset allows him to navigate personal and family dynamics with sensitivity, discretion, and care.

Clients value his professionalism and continuity. Michal places a high premium on trust, decorum, and direct client relationships, ensuring files remain personal rather than transactional. His experience spans a wide range of industries, from owner‑operated and blue‑collar businesses to professional and institutional clients, each receiving the same level of attention and respect.

Michal’s professional background includes legal training abroad, including studies in England, where common law is deeply embedded in legal culture. His career path has also included time working and teaching overseas, as well as completing the National Committee on Accreditation requirements in Canada. These experiences inform a practical, context‑driven approach to the law and a comfort working across different legal and cultural frameworks.

Michal has chosen to build his practice in the Hamilton region because it aligns with both his professional values and personal priorities. He lives in Ancaster with his wife and child, valuing the balance that comes from being close to home and accessible to his clients. Outside the office, he enjoys chess, cycling, and swimming, and has taken up golf for the challenge it brings.
