Barry Yellin Associate
Barry Yellin is a skilled civil litigator with a large and diverse practice. Over more than 20 years, Barry has gained substantial trial and appellate experience, and a reputation as an adept advocate, through a wide range of high-profile cases. He has been recognized in 2024 as a member of Best Lawyers in Canada, by the peer reviewed guide The Best LawyersTM.
Barry’s broad litigation practice includes disputes concerning commercial contracts, shareholder and partnership matters, real property rights litigation, professional negligence claims, mortgage enforcement, fraud issues, and he acts on the defence-side in civil sexual assault proceedings. He also has niche experience representing clients in matters in which emergency relief is sought from the Court including Mareva Orders, Anton Piller Orders, and other injunctive and equitable Orders.
As an experienced, multi-faceted litigator, Barry has also represented law firms of all sizes — from a Top-5 national law firm based in Toronto, to local sole practitioners — in Assessment matters commenced under the Solicitors Act. Simply put, Barry is a lawyer other lawyers hire when they need representation.
When Most of Your Clients are Introduced by Referral, It Speaks Volumes
For many years, Barry has gained most of his casework through direct referrals from other lawyers or previous clients. This is a powerful reflection of the quality of service Barry provides, as well as the excellent relationships he’s forged throughout his career. Referrals are always respected.
While Barry has garnered many courtroom successes for his clients, one of his greatest joys in law is mentoring articling students and newer lawyers. Those who Barry has mentored have gone on to have very strong and rewarding careers themselves. Given his experience, Barry is often invited by legal organizations and law associations to deliver papers or lead seminars on litigation practice points.
