“There’s a real artform to drafting a contract because it has to use concise, clear and easy-to-read language, but still be persuasive and legally airtight. It’s challenging to find that balance. Each drafter has their own unique style and approach, and it’s a skill that you continue to perfect throughout your career.” - Victoria Delle Donne

Victoria Delle Donne  Associate

Victoria Delle Donne originally trained to be a visual artist. But after signing a contract with an art gallery, she was stung by a clause she had unknowingly agreed to. Determined to protect herself in the future, she enrolled in an introductory law class, and the rest is history.

A lawyer with an artistic flair

With an appetite for meticulous, detailed-oriented work, Victoria uses her background in art to inform her approach to practicing law. She looks at the big picture first and then works backwards, through the minute details, to get to the final product.

“I know what it’s like to be on the disadvantaged side of a contract – and it’s so empowering now to know my rights and use that knowledge to help my clients.”

As a part of the Thompson, Moloci Stanton group, Victoria works as a solicitor focusing on real estate, intellectual property, contract drafting and corporate & commercial law. She works collaboratively with the litigators on the team, as many of their files have a solicitor element to them.

“It’s incredibly helpful to have two different thought processes and two different mindsets working towards one goal.”

" Q: Favourite saying/words to live by"

− A: “Two heads are better than one. I really benefit from bouncing ideas and arguments off of someone else. I think it's beneficial to get a different perspective and a fresh set of eyes to help work through a problem.”

" Q: Your unofficial job title"

− A: Professional student. If I could somehow practice law and stay in school at the same time, I would do it. I absolutely loved law school.

" Q: Favourite way to stay on top of changes in the profession"

− A: “I have both a Canadian and a US law degree, so I like to look at what is happening in the US. I find many Canadian laws are heavily informed and based on what has already happened in the States.”
