“The art of law is akin to language arts. In law, multiple areas must come together to create a contract, for example, in the same way that artists use different materials and textures to create their masterpiece with physical arts.” - Lawin Salah

“Two things come to mind when you boil art down to its core purpose. Firstly, art is a means by which an artist can express themselves. Secondly, art is something that shapes a viewer's experience. The practice of law is very much like that in that lawyers express themselves through their practice. You can tell a lot about a lawyer by how they choose to practice law, whether it be their personality, values, or priorities; their practice is an expression of who they are as human beings. And that expression shapes how their clients experience the legal world. Some clients may only have one interaction with law their entire lives; it's up to us legal artists to ensure it is a positive interaction.” - Monique Slade

As a fashion enthusiast, Lawin has a keen interest in intellectual property laws. She wrote about copycat fashions in law school and discovered a great deal about the legal landscape in Canada and other countries around the world. Her advice to newbie creators is to get your IP areas covered, so you’re not left vulnerable.

" Q: Tell me about recent changes that have the biggest impact on your practice."

− A: “The world is changing in so many ways, with technology, social media, and cryptocurrency. Lawyers will have to work harder to respond to these changes because legislation is typically slower to respond to change.”

" Q: Personal quality that’s served you well? "

− A: “I’ve always been very determined with a strong type A personality. I think that’s helped me achieve my goals and has kept me on track.”

" Q: Most important life lesson?"

− A: “Try to stay positive and believe that things will work out. And of course, be kind to everyone you meet, because people always remember how you made them feel. ”
